Lockdown pizza movies

Movies and Pizza go together like Riggs and Murtaugh (name that film!)

Let’s be honest, 2020 hasn’t been the best year so far…

With isolation still being a big part of our lives, binging Netflix and Prime are becoming our main source of entertainment, so we thought we’d weigh in on some of Origin teams fave films involving pizza (admittedly some are a bit of a stretch). And if you fancy having a stab at making your own pizza for your movie night, check out our homemade pizza dough recipe and have some fun (and mess) in the kitchen this week.

E.T The Extra-terrestrial (1982)

ET phone home! In this much-loved classic, it’s the purchase of a pizza which starts Elliot’s epic journey. Walking down the driveway to pay for his pizza Elliot hears a crash from the tool shed, and makes contact with the "little squashy guy" perhaps the least threatening alien invader ever to hit a movie screen.

Back to the Future (1989)

Who didn’t marvel at the incredible rehydrating pizza machine in Marty McFly’s future kitchen? Turning a tiny frozen disc, the size of a pog (if you’re a child of the 80’s you’ll know) into a meteoric steaming pizza that’d feed a ravenous rugby team.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)

Cowabunga! We know that if the turtles aren't battling the evil Shredder, their next favourite past time is certainly enjoying a lip-smacking takeaway pizza 🍕

Home Alone (1990) [available on Disney+]

KEEEEEVVVIIIINNNN!! We all remember Kevin’s disappointment at not being left any cheese pizza, leading us into a hilarious mis-adventure dodging hapless intruders, but at least he does get his very own cheese pizza in the end.

Also, can we just ask what the hell Kevin’s mum and dad did to afford a mortgage on that house?! 🤯

Ready Player One (2018)

Ok so this is a stretch, but the film is awesome so bear with us! This has so many fabulous 80s/90s pop culture Easter eggs for true geeks. It also includes a piece of tech which we don’t think might be that far off, as one of “The stacks” residents walk outside of their house to collect a pizza being delivered by a drone.

We hope you enjoy these films and more importantly, enjoy the PIZZA!
